Viticulture
The vineyard name Thurmberg/Turmberg, or sometimes just 'Berg,' comes from the surviving keep (central tower) of what used to be Scharfenstein Castle. Situated on the estate's south-southwest facing slopes, the single vineyard is composed of predominantly stony, fragmented phyllite with dramatic inclines of up to 60 %. The exceptional micro-climate of this south-southwest facing vineyard boasts warm temperatures, long exposure and good wind protection - which in turn leads to a long hang time for the grapes; taken together with the craggy phyllite soils, the result is small, intense and flavourful berries.
