Casa Silva

Colchagua Valley

Clean and bright golden yellow colour. Aromas of ripe pineapple, oranges, mango, peaches, and hints of jasmine. On the palate, it is of medium acidity, voluminous in texture, fruity, floral, and of medium persistence.

The Colchagua Valley is located in the O´Higgins region, in the center of Chile. This region is a pioneer in the promotion of wines of origin (appellation) and was the first to create its tourist wine route. Situated in the cradle of our traditions, the Colchagua Valley is known for producing premium wines and has been the valley that received the most accolades in international wine competitions in the last few years. In general terms, the Colchagua valley consists of a sector of hills at the feet of the Andes with influence from this mountain range, a central or flat zone, as well as a coastal zone with a predominant influence from the Pacific Ocean.

Viticulture

Deep soils from alluvial origin with the presence of decomposed, fine gravel with a sandy texture, with rocks in different stages of weathering being present. On the property one can find a hill that contains the best soils of the site, formed by the decomposition of rocks. Red day and abundant quartz gravel on the surface can be found, as well. The organic content is low and soils are of low vigour and medium depth. The gradients in this vineyard vary, with 30° slopes on the hillsides. The climate in this area showcase high temperatures, but are cooled down by early morning mist and colder nights due to its close proximity to the ocean. During the summer months the temperatures fluctuate between 9°C and 30°C, the latter being the peak maximum high temperature in the afternoon.

Vinification

Grape clusters are manually selected and whole clusters are pressed. The juice is clarified by natural decantation for 24 hours at 15°C, after which a controlled fermentation at 15 - 18 °C takes place for 15 - 20 days. Post ferment the fermentation lees are worked in the tank. 10% in 2nd and 20% in 3rd fill French oak barrels. 70% stainless steel tanks. 3 months. 1 month in bottle prior to market release.

Recommendation

Serve with shrimp curry. Serve at 10 to 12 °C. Drink now or cellar for up to 3 years.
