2022 Rothenberg Riesling Grosses Gewächs

Gunderloch

Rheinhessen

Opulent and ripe fruit flavours with lifted aromas of fresh and dried fennel is only matched by the sublimely complex acidic backbone and broad-shouldered minerality. The Rothenberg’s “innocent” generosity and the ingenious delicacy give it almost mystical-like balance and depth. Truly age worthy! If you can resist...

Viticulture

Rothenberg Grand Cru from Nackenheim and the pride of our family. This southeasterly amphitheatre seats prominently at the northern tip of Roter Hang. Geology dating back to Permian era, 250 million years ago, with many steep small parcels and
plots hugging the slope curvature and partly planted on ancient terraces. A truly great vineyard.

Vinification

We always strive for our grapes to express their full inherent potential by avoiding all unnatural interventions in the winery, in particular, foreign and artificial yeasts or fining agents. By practicing skin maceration of the grapes, cold settling of the juice, promoting
indigenous yeast ferments and prolonged lees contact – keys aspects of our holistic approach to low intervention winemaking. Wines fermented and aged on the lees for 9 months in 1200L Stück barrels.
