2022 Pettenthal Riesling Grosses Gewächs

Gunderloch

Rheinhessen

The nuanced and precise aromas of limes, yellow plums and white peaches are apexed with hints of spicy dried herbs and flintiness, all bolstered by the broad savoury mouthfeel. The firm mid palate is harmoniously married with the chalky minerality and
a light phenolic grip, creating a true mosaic of aromas and textures with many moving parts, aka Tetris.

Viticulture

Pettenthal Grand Cru vineyard from Nierstein. The combination of exposures, gradients, all mixed-in with traversing combs through this geologically unique formation of the Permian era. Dating back to 250 million years ago, and still in its
original rocky slate and partly weathered form intermingled with some marl and even lime stone. We believe the reason behind its marked mineral flavours and texture.

Vinification

We always strive for our grapes to express their full inherent potential by avoiding all unnatural interventions in the winery, in particular, foreign and artificial yeasts or fining agents. By practicing skin maceration of the grapes, cold settling of the juice, promoting
indigenous yeast ferments and prolonged lees contact – keys aspects of our holistic approach to low intervention winemaking. Wines fermented and aged on the lees for 9 months in 600 and 1200L Stück barrels.
