2022 Hipping Riesling Grosses Gewächs

Gunderloch

Rheinhessen

Rich, exuberant and deep, with prevalent ripe yellow fruit aromas and earthy, toasty undertones. Bone-dry palate, with climbing, broad acidic backdrop and the mineral finish create a unique mouth fill experience that lasts well after the wine is gone.
Youthful and flamboyant when young, graceful and unpretentious with age.

Viticulture

Hipping Grand Cru from Nierstein. The combination of east and south-easterly exposures and the steep gradient provides the vines with the perfect growing conditions on this red hillside. A geologically unique formation of the Permian era, dating back to 250
million years and still in its original rocky slate and partly weathered form. The deeper top soils give the wines their characteristic richness.

Vinification

We always strive for our grapes to express their full inherent potential by avoiding all unnatural interventions in the winery, in particular, foreign and artificial yeasts or fining agents. By practicing skin maceration of the grapes, cold settling of the juice, promoting
indigenous yeast ferments and prolonged lees contact – keys aspects of our holistic approach to low intervention winemaking. Wines fermented and aged on the lees for 9 months in 600 and 1200L Stück barrels.
