The Pinot Gris grape variety was first vinified separately here in the Pfalz region, and Germany is second only to Italy in acres planted. Villa Wolf Pinot Gris is made in a full-bodied, dry style with fresh, unoaked fruit and a crisp texture.
Viticulture
The 2020 vintage started out quite rainy, which was actually a welcome blessing for the vines and the soil after two very dry years, and it gave us a very positive start. From May onward, the weather showed its beautiful side with moderate temperatures and sufficient rainfall. In general, the summer nights remained cool until July. This has a positive effect on the growth of the vine and aroma expression. In terms of our 2020 Villa Wolf Pinot Gris, this wine was fermented in stainless steel which helps preserve its freshness and vibrant fruit.
Vinification
The wine is made in a combination of large, neutral oak casks for depth and complexity; concrete tanks for a rounded texture; and stainless steel to preserve freshness and enhance the vibrant fruit.
Recommendation
It is an excellent partner for salmon, chicken, pork or savoury vegetarian dishes.
