2020 Jean Stodden Spätburgunder

Jean Stodden, Das Rotweingut

Rech, Ahr

Fresh, supple and fine with bright red cherries. Very pure with lovely precision and good acidity.

Viticulture

The selected vineyards for our Stodden Pinot Noir and Pinot Noir "J" and Pinot Noir "JS" are on steep and sloping sites. The orientation of the layers is South and South-East. The soils are a mixture of sand and loam, sometimes with a very high stone content. The wines are pure Pinot Noir, but a cuvée from our locations in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, Dernau and Rech.

Vinification

This elegant red wine from Germany is made from the Pinot Noir grape variety. The grapes grow under optimal conditions on the Ahr. Here, the vines dig their roots deep into soils of loam and sand. Moreover, the grapes of this top wine of Jean Stodden do not grow in the lowlands, but dig their roots into the subsoil in steep slopes. The steep slope cultivation ensures that even in cooler wine-growing regions with shorter vegetation periods, the vines receive a maximum of sun. After the hand harvest, the grapes arrive quickly at the winery. Here they are sorted and carefully broken up. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks and large wood at controlled temperatures. The fermentation is followed by maturation for several months on the fine lees before the wine is finally bottled

Recommendation

This German wine is best enjoyed at a temperate 15 - 18°C. It is perfect as an accompanying wine to leek tortilla, spinach gratin with almonds or chickpea curry.
