2020 Gunderloch Jean Baptiste Riesling Kabinett

Gunderloch

Rheinhessen

▪ This Kabinett is a classical, off-dry Riesling typical for the
minerality of the red slate soil. The wine offers harmonious
Riesling fruit with a fine acidity and juicy texture.
▪ Typical fruity characteristics of yellow flesh stone fruits
and long mineral finish of our “Red Slate” vineyards.
▪ Named after the founder of the winery “Jean Baptiste”
Gunderloch

Viticulture

▪ At the start of the year rich rainfalls generated good water
reserves in the soil. Vegetation started mid may, just a few
days ahead of schedule.
▪ A mild spring turned into a warm and dry summer but
luckily without heat peaks. Isolated but rich rainfalls kept
the dry stress away.
▪ Picking began on the 3rd of September. The stable
weather system enabled a calm and precise harvest.
The grapes tasted just a bit riper as in previous years. The
acidity is just a notch lower and the mouthfeel of the wines
is grippy and structured. The nose is crystal-clear alluring
and shows finesse and a noble understatement.
▪ The lower terraces of our three top vineyard sites
Nierstein Hipping, Nierstein Pettenthal and Nackenheim
Rothenberg.
▪ Red slate soil from Permian times (290 mil. years old).
