2020 Dr. Loosen Erdener Treppchen Riesling Kabinett

Dr. Loosen

Mosel

Lemon and herbal freshness with a touch of liquorice. Excellent balance of mineral acidity and delicate fruit on the very lively palate, the grape sweetness barely perceptible. Very crisp, clean finish.

Viticulture

The 2020 growing season and harvest both got off to an early start here in the Mosel, but ended up giving us picture-perfect fruit for excellent dry wines, as well as brilliant off-dry and medium-sweet wines at the lower end of the Prädikat spectrum. When describing the 2020 vintage overall, our cellar master, Bernhard Schug, summed it up best by simply calling it “a Kabinett/Spätlese year.” Erni concludes that “the 2020 vintage should be a showcase for the typical mineral structure of Mosel Riesling.”

The Erdener Treppchen vineyard is so steep that, long ago, stone steps were built into the hillside to help workers reach the vines. The iron-infused, red slate soil produces wines that are muscular and complex, with an intense mineral finish. The early harvested Kabinett is a precocious wine, with red fruit aromas and an elegant yet muscular structure.
