2019 Jordan Barrel Fermented Chardonnay

Jordan Wine Estate

Stellenbosch

A variety of Chardonnay clones planted on different slopes and harvested at different ripeness levels and all of it fermented and matured in French oak barrels. These practices help to achieve natural balance and allow for different textural components which are then blended to achieve finesse and complexity. Bold and graceful with fragrances of lemon biscuit and overripe oranges.

Viticulture

A variety of chardonnay clones planted on different south and east facing slopes, 250-310m above sea level, the vines are aged between 21 -35 years old. Harvested at different ripening levels. Soils are Glenrosa and Hutton.

Vinification

The juice was barrel fermented in a selection of 228 litre Burgundy shaped French oak barrel (39% new, 43% second fill, 18% third fill and 13% fourth fill. Nevers and Burgundian oak barrels). The wine was matured "sur lie" in the barrel for 9 months with occasional rolling of the barrels to accentuate the lees characters. 8% tank fermented Chardonnay was blended with the barrel wine to ensure well balanced citrus flavours. Both portions of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation.

Recommendation

Delicious with fresh fish and seafood, or for the ultimate indulgence try with southern fried chicken!
