2018 Rutherford Hill Merlot

Rutherford Hill Winery

Deep ruby with intense aromas of dark cherry, plum, fresh fig with a hint of nutmeg, in the mouth it is medium-bodied with concentrated flavours of dark plum, pomegranate, dried cherries and a mocha finish that lead to supple and lengthy finish. Blended with classic Bordeaux varietals to produce a high quality, refined, luxury Napa Valley Merlot.

Quality from family ownership and 40 years of Napa Valley tradition. Produced with estate grown fruit from our Napa Valley vineyards in Rutherford, Oak Knoll and Pope Valley. Gently aged in one of Napa’s most extensive cave systems

Seamless season of heavenly hangtime and phenomenal phenolic development February saw abundant rains, followed by lots of filtered light in spring and early summer. Both bud break and flowering occurred a bit late, but under ideal weather conditions, creating plentiful and even fruit set. Summer brought generous sun during the day and cooler marine influences, virtually uninterrupted by major heat spikes. The relatively mild summer followed by extended fall sunshine and moderate heat created near-ideal conditions for winemakers to allow their fruit to accumulate flavour complexity with gradual increases in sugar levels. Volume is looking great, up 20-30% increase over average crop quantity.

Fermentation in stainless steel tank with daily pump overs, pressed at dryness; secondary fermentation to finish in barrels and tanks. Cave aging for 18 months in French oak barrels
