2018 Louis Guntrum Nierstein Bergkirche Riesling Kabinett

Louis Guntrum

Rheinhessen

Niersteiner Bergkirche (Berg = hill, Kirche = Church), Rheinhessen, Germany – around the corner of the oldest vineyard in Germany – Niersteiner Glöck, 742 A.D. Elegant and classical Riesling scent, paired with aromas of tropical fruits. Green apples and citrus, pineapple and melon. Excellent balance of sweetness and acidity.

Viticulture

Heavy clay soil which contributes to the deep and complex character of Bergkirche wines. Steep hillsides along the Rhein river. Natural cultivation following officially controlled measures (DLG). Reduced pruning, defoilage and green harvest. Very limited and strictly monitored use of fertilizers and chemicals. Yield of less than 3.500 liters per hectar.

Vinification

Gentle pressing, natural sedimentation, temperature controlled fermentation at 12°C in stainless steel, one filtration only, ageing in stainless steel

Recommendation
