Viticulture
Riesling cultivation on Bürgstadter Berg has a long tradition. The best grapes come from a terraced plot in the Centgrafenburg vineyard, which dates back to the Archbishops of Mainz. In terms of alcohol this Riesling from the red sandstone is moderate, usually between 11% - 12.5%. Its unique character is more similar to Rieslings from the primary rock soils of the western Rheingau and the Nahe than to the Rieslings that grow in the shale limestone of the Franken region.
The white Gutsweine are grown on stony soils. These vines are also subject to intensive manual labour.
Vinification
Vinified in both large wooden barrels and stainless steel tanks. When fermented dry these wines display elegance and pure minerality. Thus: pur mineral.
Recommendation
Terrific when paired with simple clean fish, chicken or pasta dishes, avoid anything with strong flavours or tomato based.
