2016 Louis Guntrum Pinot Noir Réserve

Louis Guntrum

Rheinhessen

The great surprise however and the outstanding wine of the entire portfolio is clearly the Reserve Pinot Noir. Red wine from vineyards along the Rhein river? It is about time to get used to it. Well concentrated bouquet, smoky notes, bright red fruit, beautifully clean also on the palate, good grip and freshness, well structured, delicious fruit and a an unobtrusive note of chocolate.

Viticulture

Sustainable farming and grape growing. Exclusive use of organic fertilizers, no irrigation, defoilage by hand for reduced use of pesticides and healthier grapes, cover plants as natural fertilizer, to increase biological activity of the soil and to reduce soil compression, hand selected harvest with maximum grape temperatures at harvest below 15°C.

Vinification

Fermentation and maceration for approx.. 14 days on the skins. Partly open vats, partly fermented in stainless steel tanks. “Battonage” three times per day. Ageing in new French oak barrique barrels for 18 months. Carefully selected oak, toasted to our specifications.
